The MLLP research group of VRAIN-Universitat Politècnica de València have obtained the first place in the IberSpeech-RTVE 2020 TV Speech-to-Text Challenge, repeating their 2018 victory. This consolidates UPV-VRAIN-MLLP technology as the best in Spain and among the best in the world for live automatic subtitling of TV and broadcast contents.
The MLLP’s candidature to European Parliament call for tenders EP/TRAD/2019/LSTT “Live Speech to Text and Machine Translation Tool for 24 Languages” obtained a strong rating and was ranked sixth, close to the five shortlisted candidatures by large EU and US tech consortia and organizations.
Online magazine Panorama Audiovisual recently published a report with up-to-date information on the R&D project by the Valencian public broadcaster À Punt and the Universitat Politècnica de València’s VRAIN-MLLP research group in which streaming and offline speech-to-text are being applied for computer-assisted subtitling of live and pre-recorded broadcast media.
This year, the MLLP has participated in the 2021 edition of the Blizzard Challenge, with the neural text-to-speech synthesis system proposed by the MLLP obtaining some of the best results in the challenge.
The article “Towards cross-lingual voice cloning in higher education“, by Alejandro Pérez González de Martos and other MLLP researchers, has been accepted for publication in Volume 105 of the IFAC’s journal Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.
The article “Streaming cascade-based speech translation leveraged by a direct segmentation model“, by Javier Iranzo-Sánchez and other MLLP researchers, has been accepted for publication in the 2021 Special Issue of the INNS journal Neural Networks.
